Hunting in Austria

Via its central agency the provincial hunting associations are members to ÖGNU (the Austrian Society for Nature and Environmental Protection), CIC (International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation) and FACE (the Federation of the Associations for Hunting and Conservation of the EU).

  • Hunting legislation

    Austrian hunting law is regulated at the provincial level.  You will find the applicable laws and ordinances of the individual Federal Provinces in the Legal Information System of the Republic of Austria.

  • Hunting test

    To test the hunt, 18 Age and proof of a theoretical and practical knowledge necessary. For information on hunting examination give the central Austrian national hunting associations, the national hunting associations and the offices of the provincial governments. > more about: Hunting test

  • Hunting license

    For active hunting a hunting license, respectively a guest hunting license, are required in Austria. Hunting licenses are issued by the authorities. By annual payment of the hunting license fee and the membership fee for the association the hunting license will automatically be renewed.

  • Gamekeepers

    Gamekeepers are "administrative organs" and are responsible for compliance with the hunting legislation and pasture just hunting them. They are used by the Authority confirmed and sworn.
